Seaside Resorts
Warm climate, miles of soft sand gently sloping beaches and modern resorts invite travelers to seriously consider Romania's Black Sea Coast as their summer vacation destination. Main seaside resorts are centred on 45 miles of fine sand beaches and include Mamaia, Eforie, Costinesti, Neptun-Olimp, Jupiter, Venus, Saturn and Mangalia.
The water of the Black Sea has low salinity in comparison with other seas or oceans: just 13-15 parts per thousand (while ocean's salinity is higher than 35 parts per thousand). This fact is due to major rivers that flow into the sea, like Danube River. There is a virtual absence of tides and currents and usually the sea is calm. The medium latitude and the low altitude are favorable to a dry climate and determine a long season, lasting from late May to September, whilst the eastern exposure of the coast provides for spectacular sunrises and maximum luminosity, amounting to over 14 hours a day at the height of summer. There are about 24-25 sunny days a month in the summer. Water temperatures are in between 16-20 degrees Celsius in June, between 20-28 C in July and August and around 20C in September. The air is well-ionised, rich in marine aerosols. The sand beaches are generally natural ones, 400-500 m wide at Mangalia and Techirghiol, and 50-200 m wide in other resorts. The high solar radiation intensity is said to have stimulating and healing effects. The entire complex of sand, air, sun and water is a beneficial one.
The Black Sea coast has long been known for cures of arthritic, rheumatic, internal and nervous disorders. Eforie and Mangalia Spas specialize in mud baths (the mud is taken from the area's salty lake waters) as well as in world famous "Gerovital" and "Aslavital" original rejuvenation treatments. Vacationers at Romania's Black Sea Coast can also join organized trips from the seaside to a number of locations in the country, including the Danube Delta, the painted monasteries of Bucovina, to the nation's capital city, Bucharest, or to nearby Bulgaria, Greece and Turkey.
